We
are an experiential congregation. The best way for you to see
whether First Church would be a good fit for you is to come
and worship with us on Sunday morning at 10. Through the inclusive-language
liturgy, the sermon, the music, the prayers that members offer,
and the announcements at the end of worship that we call the
Life of the Church, you'll get a sense of who we are and what
we understand God is calling us to be - an Open and Affirming
community striving to be faithful to the gospel of love and
justice.
The
pastoral ministers are also glad to talk with you about questions
you may have, but attending on a Sunday will give you the opportunity
to meet other members of the community as well. Two or three
times a year we hold informational meetings for those who are
considering joining. At those gatherings we discuss the variety
of backgrounds represented in our membership as well as the
distinctive histories of both First Church and the United Church
of Christ.
About
a week after each information meeting, we welcome new members
into the community. We value the varied gifts that each person
brings.
